During the 1920s in England, a gay novelist and his psychiatric nurse develop an unusual friendship, sparked by doctor-arranged meetings. During their chats, he recounts to her the tale of his relationship with a former friend. Their bond went awry when they opted for a dangerous treatment in an attempt to overcome their forbidden affections for each other.
